Question: To what extent media outlets acknowledge and address challenges to gender equalities in media content and promote free expression and inclusion of diverse voices?
Inequalities in gender representation still exist (e.g. Sjøvaag and Pedersen, 2018 and several others less recent).
The interviews show that every news media want to cover an equal part of women and men in their news reporting. In one of the leading newspapers, they measured this constantly:
“Yes, we have realized that we can´t reach 50%, but we should have 40% female sources. We measure this constantly and all journalists receive daily reports on the proportion of female sources in their cases. It is a tool that measures from the names and pronouns of articles”.
This form of measuring was not the case in the other news media. They focused on addressing the equality between men and women, but this is responsibility is delegated to the journalists.
