Sweden – (E3) Diversity of formats

Score in short:

Anything for anyone, any time – almost.

Score in detail:

There are no longer any newspaper publishing houses in Sweden, neither at the national nor at the regional level. Today, they all refer to themselves as media publishing houses offering a wide range of formats from printed papers, online services (including social media), mobile platforms and in many cases also broadcast media. Cross-media formats such as newspaper as PDF, web-TV and pod radio are offered by most multi-media companies.

News is available at any time on the Internet and on text-TV. Public service radio newscasts are updated every hour of the day. Journalistic work is increasingly influenced by the variety of publishing platforms, and journalists are expected to produce news material for different formats when reporting on current events.

The request for diverging media formats has also encouraged hitherto unknown collaborations between public and private media, as in the region of Jämtland where the two daily newspapers Länstidningen Östersund and Östersunds-Posten (both owned by Östersunds Tidningar) offer regional public service web-TV news on their websites.
