Switzerland – (C6) Practice of access to information

Score in short:

In general Swiss journalists have free access to most public information.

Score in detail:

The interviews with the editors-in-chief give no indication that they were hampered in getting information from different stakeholders. This finding corresponds with other statements from journalists who work at regional newspapers (cf. Meier et al. 2011). There is a consensus that especially the administration and authorities provide information well. According to the law, the State must provide information (Art. 180 Abs. 2 BV) (Mader 2010: 29). Refusal to do so is rare.
