At all the news media studied, we find at least one large editorial meeting per day and several meetings of sections of the staff. These meetings are on principle open to all journalists. Two news media go further and explicitly require the presence of their journalists at editorial meetings; attendance is encouraged by those in charge and discussed during the performance interview. Though in most cases hierarchic structures are decisive and the editor-in-chief, the final editor and the head of the newsroom have a great say in any editorial choices, most news media enjoy a culture of openness; their editors-in-chief are accessible and willing to listen to young journalists with a fresh view of things who make their views known, solicited or not.
