By 2018, 125 of 223 Norwegian newspapers were owned by large media companies, with Amedia and Schibsted being the biggest owners. Commercial television broadcaster TV2 Gruppen is owned by Danish Egmont. A 2017 report showed public service broadcaster NRK had 85 % daily reach (dekning), Schibsted 74 % Amedia 38 %. Measured in circulation, Schibsted and Amedia had a combined market share of 54,3% (2018, Medietilsynet). Several medium size companies – NHST Media Group AS (NHST) and Aller Media Group AS (Aller) – control together 18.1% of the market. In addition, several companies control one or a few newspapers. Measured in circulation, Schibsted is the biggest newspaper owner with 30% of the total circulation (or 41% depending on method (see MedieNorge).
