The Norwegian news media market has an abundance of news formats, with a long list of news formats across media sectors:
- online-outlets specialized on news (Nettavisen)
- print newspapers
- general radio with news programs, national and regional (NRK)
- 24-hour news channels, radio (NRK Alltid Nyheter)
- 24-hour news channels, TV (TV2 Nyhetskanalen)
- Weekly print and online papers (Morgenbladet)
- Local print and online papers
- “Alternative news media”, mostly perceived as far right or left/focused on immigration issues
Norway has never had mature freesheets, and there is a weaker distinction between tabloid and quality press than in some other countries, with the Norwegian leading papers being described as schizophrenic in catering to combined target groups (Eide).
